Sound Taxi 2.3.1 works fine for me
Not sure what all the problems are but I have converted thousands of 192 and 220kDRM'd files to MP3 that I purchased. I have no complaints about this software.

Soundtaxi
I have to say that I've been running this program for three weeks without one problem. I've not had problems with batch conversions either. I have a fairly new Dell with two GB of RAM. Pretty middle of the road. I've converted hundreds of files.

dont buy
If they sell the same program under ten different names then you can guess how bad its going to be!

SoundTaxi is RUBBISH
I paid for this and on almost every track that I have converted I am receiving skips in the tracks. This is far from ideal. My CPU is never running at mich more than 50 -60% when this POS is working but still I get skips. I have changed the mode so that it is only converting one at a time on the slowest speed and the results here were almost worse. Research and see if there is anything better out there.

Brand New Intel Quad Core 6700, 4GB Memory, Desktop XP Pro & I Still have Hickups on File Conversion
Not to mentioned I've been writting them for a month now and only received one email asking for the System Configuration file of my computer which I got no reply after that with no solution whatsoever. Here's the drill, my CPU usage is far from peaking on the 100%, Before it used to convert 16 tracks at a time and now for some reason its converting only 11 or so. I'd turn off my internet connection and every other application including firewall and antivirus and I STILL get audio skipping every 20-30 songs. In other words, The program simply does not WORK. I bought this machine specificly for this porpose and the funny thing is that it worked like a beauty for about 3 months, and now it's like this. out of the blue. And guess what, I've tried everything, converting one track at a time even, and i still get those issues. Can anyone tell me about a program that just works, because sound taxi just doesnt. It sucks.

really, it's Real
It's only conversion of rax files that appear to cause off the charts cpu use, but in the end it was fine. Soundtaxi must open realplayer each time it begins to convert, and this take about 70% of my CPU. Add in the amount it takes to run Soundtaxi - 24-32% - and it's taking up everything. (That might account for the reports some people made of their laptop crashing.) If it stays 100% for more than 2 or 3 seconds, it can cause a hiccup or two in the converted file. If you think this is happening to you, watch performance and processes in your task manager as it converts. I have 1G of memory at 2.2 Ghz, plus my virtual memory is at its highest setting, and it worked best when I closed as many things I had running in the background as I could (see below). Probably someone with 2 GHz memory is going to have less trouble. So far, only 3 of the 100 rax to mp3 conversions I've listened to had any flaws, but those include the ones I converted when I didn't know what I was doing yet. (But if I had to redo 3 files for every 100 rax I converted it would still be easier than burning every last one to CDs to get them into MP3.) On the other hand, M4a to MP3 runs flawlessly - I converted 713 last night and in about 3 hours they were all converted, sitting there waiting for me. I assume this is because real player isn't involved. If I were in the business, I'd make a player that could load the player program of the buyer's choice, so this wouldn't happen. What about this concept is so hard? Not rocket science. In the meantime, Soundtaxi is definitely worth the money.

Really it aint bad at all
Makes nasty boinking sounds when installing, and doesn't work unless you remember to restart your computer and enter the code. But then.. Wonderful! CPU usage is very very heavy at the beginning of each song, so it's best to be doing nothing else while you convert. Do it over night. I found that unhooking the internet and shutting down both firewall and virus protection greatly speeded up conversion. If the CPU reaches 100% you may get burps in your converted file. I've had good results with doing a batch and then listening - and rerecording the few that didn't go well. It does stop converting if you give it too many at a time, but it did 117 this morning with no trouble. I think my overnight roster was over 300 and that was what was left of my rax to mp3. Now I see some notes on real saying that perhaps I can do it through realplayer, but honestly, I don't understand why real isn't savvy enough to hook into the MP3 market. It shouldn't be such an awful mystery to get files to work on widely used players! Anyway back to my library, soon to be on my Mp3 player!

Diagnostic code 1
I can't get SoundTaxi to work for .wmv files downloaded from 4 on demand. It starts the conversion and displays the video for about 1 second then aborts and gives a not very helpful message of "Diagnostic code 1" in the Conversion Result. Can anyone help?

It aint so bad
Lot's of bummers flying around here. FYI - Don't try to convert your entire library at one shot. The program will choke. Since I keep my library in folders named a, b, c, for the first letter of the artists name, it is easy because my library is broken into 26 folders..... no problem. Meanwhile, I sick SoundTaxi on my girls ITunes library (the whole thing) and it's SystemCrashy. Wonder why anyone buys it. Aint you all heard of torrents? Have fun

POS Activation system
Why do they put so much security on a crappy program. Anytime you have to reformat your HD, the stupid program gives you a new system ID. Then you have to beg and it takes 3-4 days before support sends you a code that still doesn't work. Biggest POS that has ever come out.

FURTHER UPDATE
Beware that Soundtaxi is also being marketed under other names- like All Music Converter. The latest news- I now cannot start up Media Player, other programs eg Explorer, start up only sometimes. Windows is running slower than a week in the jail, and I am getting error messages all the time. I am constantly having to shut down and re-boot My operating system has been ruined by Soundtaxi. I utterly regret the day I installed it. If you install Soundtaxi you may end up having to buy another OS, or worse still, a new laptop or PC.

Working like a dream? UPDATE!
OK I spoke too soon. After a little time with soundtaxi, it is clear that the program is rotten, and I paid for it!! It continually crashes my laptop. I want it to convert my music library. Each time I leave the laptop alone, I come back, it has crashed. After my laptop crashes, and I re-boot, Soundtaxi does not remember the list it was converting, and what music it has already converted, so you are back to square one. If you re-insert your list, soundtaxi will start at the top of the list again, from the beginning, converting songs it has already converted, before crashing the laptop again. Frustrating, a waste of money, a waste of time. I now realise that, beyond the fake glowing reviews, no doubt by soundtaxi themselves, and some fake criticisms, no doubt by rivals, there are a lot of people like me, who are submitting genuine reviews that this program simply doesn't work properly, and could seriously damage your pc or laptop. I would say, based on current experience, I have wasted my money and time. Suggestion- soundtaxi- avoid like you would syphillis.

R&R Installer Error
Does anyone have a solution to the R&R Installer error box popping up after converting about 25-30 songs each time?

Sound Taxi working like a dream
I am currently sitting here, reading the cricisms of the program. Whne I first ran it, the program came up with errors for all the files I wanted to convert. My laptop froze, and I shut it down. However I then rebooted it, and I have to say that, although it's early days, things are going swimmingly! I am running Soundtaxi, which is converting protected files without a problem. I'm playing the Soundtaxi converted MP3s to listen to, and I'm also burning cd's to my hard drive. And, on top of that, I'm also downloading from an mp3 site. All with a fairly cheap Gateway laptop. What am I doing right? I haven't a clue.
